Lakme Fashion Week

August 22, 2011

The foyer at the shiny Grand Hyatt Hotel, Mumbai, transformed into an even shinier house for glamazons. Look closely for a giant lipstick and compact.

A celebrity! We couldn’t see who this was, but we did spot a Vogue editor and Manish Malhotra, the number one fashion designer for Bollywood Stars.

It was nice not to be in a dry state for a while. The free beer was even nicer!

The Hyatt lounge and menu were too hard to resist. As was Rooya’s macaroon craving.

Compulsory bathroom outfit shots.

The catwalk, excuse all my dodgy low light photos.

Below is the work of Digvijay Singh, Aanchal’s friend and ex-NID student. Amazing sari’s with a modern twist and lovely fresh pieces with intricate embroidery.

Some slightly more professional photos below, click the image for the link.

We were lucky enough to see a second show, with designs by Vivek Kumar, shown below.Again, click on the image for the link.

Aanchal caught up with another fashion designer friend, Adi, who had a beautiful stall at the show. It was his first range and he was already receiving orders and requests from all over, including Paris. His work was stunning as well as ecologically and ethically produced. The detail was mindblowing, the work of many talented craftsmen, and Adi himself. Photos from here.

The just-as-glamorous sleeper train back home. Most of the time I couldn’t tell it was moving, it was really comfortable. I made a fool of myself trying to climb down from the top bunker though…
